Possibly our best vacation yet…and it all happened at home. We traveled to Missouri for an extra-long holiday weekend. Given was on his best behavior, showering Grandma Susie, Uncle David, and Aunt Nicki with lots of love. If he said it once, he said it one thousand times, “Do you want to play with me?” His plea was so sweet, nobody could resist. Neither could we resist the sweet temptation of Grandma Susie's COOKIES! Grandma made her first batch after she got home from work at 10pm on Wednesday night.
Who is spoiled here??

Among all of the fun was a trip to the drive-in movies. Given loved the old-fashioned slide (meaning, it was big and scary, and NOT plastic!) and swing before the movie started. We watched Hancock…and I thought it was a great summer film for outside.

Part of Given’s daily routine was going to the pond with Uncle David to feed the fish. Just getting there was an adventure; we watched TONS of baby frogs jump out of mud puddles as we drove along. The channel fish were ready and waiting by the time we arrived at 5pm each evening. How exciting to see those big fish jumping up out of the water to swarm after the food….they filled their mouths full each time, it seemed.

Given also visited a neighbor’s farm and got to feed the mama horse and baby colt…then he got to sit on the horses!! This farm also had a fuzzy cat and two squirrelly dogs. Given looked forward to helping Uncle David do the chores. What a truly special treat – one that we’ll always remember.

On the 4th, we lit a few fireworks at the farm, then drove into town to see the big display. On the 5th we went to KC to visit Auntie Martha, Uncle Dan, and cousin Phen for lunch.
I was lucky enough to get some good pictures and a few good videos from the weekend. Again…I’ve been a lot of places, but this trip was the most enjoyable, the most relaxing, the most adventuresome than I can ever remember.
Dare me to say it?????
I will: "There's no place like home..."
